"Why do I collect files? Google does that..." Well, I have some spare time and some web-know how, so why not collect some helpful info? I'm finding there's more good stuff about Road Worn guitars all the time. And I want to have handy references for future use. The Fender Road Worn guitar line was released at NAMM in January 2009 and the Road Worn's have won over plenty of fans already. As plenty of forum threads demonstrate, the Road Worns have stirred things up more than most new guitars. In February 2009 I grabbed my Road Worn '50s Telecaster mainly for the feel of the neck and the sound. The Road Worn Telecaster felt and sounded better than my ash American Standard Telecaster, and it was lighter too. I had my reservations about the worn appearance, but I jumped in -previously I had not been able to afford a guitar that sounded or felt that good. |
The Road Worn guitars are produced at one of Fender's factories located in Ensenada, Mexico, a short drive from the Fender factory in Corona, California. There has been a significant price and quality differential between the products of these two factories for many years. At the beginning of 2009 the prices of the American Standard Telecaster and the Road Worn Telecaster were very close. Did my Mexican Tele sound better than my American Tele because of the pick ups or the bridge or... maybe its down to the Road Worn's nitrocellulose paintjob? Hmmm. Some say the Road Worns are the best line to come out of the Mexican factory to date, and that the Road Worns are a turning point for Fender Inc... Agree or disagree, the Road Worns are controversial to say the least, and that is a Good Thing.
Updates: I've been selling some other guitars and stuff to fund some Road Worns..

+ve quote about the RW Strat: "Nice n' woody tone here. Definitely worth their price to the guys that have ears. I love the feel of an unfinished neck. I'd take one over any of the US strats any day. relic'd or not. It's about the tone and feel to me." |
